Sometimes, I get nostalgic towards the end of a complex project. This isn’t one of those times. I’m thrilled to be done.
Nashville Honeymoon - Sidewinder
The San Fransciso Bay Area-based team of Nashville Honeymoon released their most recent album, and it slaps. Thanks to a very unplanned night out while visiting great friends in our old hometown, I found this band. So, like any good country music fan, I started following them, listening to their back catalog. This new effort is some of the best work they’ve done. Sidewinder is a great honky tonk album.
Rich O’Toole - God Is a Gentleman
This EP is filled with smart storytelling and good music. I’m partial to “My Own Funeral” due to its use of such modern language within the lyrics. I don’t know, but this may be the first time Amex points have been referenced in country/Americana music. But I might be wrong.
Acacia Forgot - “Hollywood Hillbilly”
How could I forget? Acacia Forgot, hot off her stint on RuPaul’s Drag Race, comes out with some strong LA Country music — without much kitch. But don’t worry, there is still some kitch.
Atlantis Aquarius - “Whiskey for Two”
A bit upbeat, a bit southern classic rock, a bit banjo? This one is a vibe, as they say.
Fabrizio - “Finish Line”
Fitting. But I love this dude’s voice.
